Many coops for sale and coop plans have a nesting box divided into three spaces, yet suggest the coop is appropriate for more than three chickens. Will laying hens "share" a single nesting space withing the larger nesting box?

Patrick,

Chickens will lay eggs just about anywhere. They tend to find a hidden place
they like and lay their eggs in that spot every time. Ironically, when there
are multiple nesting boxes, many of the hens choose the same nest to lay
their eggs.

That being said, its easy to divide large nesting boxes into sections...
1/2 ply and some 2x2s at the base and you can easily section off any
nest...

Id just get a feel for your chickens... If theyre fine with a large
nesting box, Id let them lay away! If you suspect theyre not producing as
much, you can always divide a large nesting box into sections... but
adequate water, food, and a safe feeling are the main components to good egg
production.

Please let me know if you have any more questions! Have a great day!

Jason
