Welcome to DIY Chicken Coops!

Welcome to DIY Chicken Coops!

Welcome to DIY Chicken Coops! Welcome to our site! We've been working hard to get it up and running. We are excited to finally have it launched. It is a lot of fun to see the website come to life. We want to start on the blog by talking a little bit about who we are and what we hope to bring to our customers. First and foremost, we believe in customer service. We feel customer service has fallen through the cracks a little bit in modern society (at least in the USA). We don't think it's intentional as much as a byproduct of how busy we are. Everyone is rushing around. Many families have two working parents. Kids have unlimited activities. There are smart phones, I-Pads, Laptops, text messaging and a non-stop flow of information that keeps people wired all of the time. It's just go, go, go, go! We live in this world of computers and machines that "make our lives easier". In many ways, they do. But, these machines and computers also mean that one person can do and is expected to do so much more. Take our modern farms for instance. What once took hundreds of people to manage can be done with just a few people these days. Policeman used to ride with a partner. Now, they ride solo. I could go on and on about doing more with less. But, the point here is that we're doing more with less as much as that one person is expected to manage more with less people. While we have all kinds of things at their disposal like tractors, computers, blackberries, supply chains and the internet, we are really limiting our interaction with other people. The result is that we're less connected to people emotionally. Take a moment next time you are in the public and look around at the number of people that are texting, talking and emailing. They're paying attention to everything but what is right in front of them. Truthfully, it goes back to managing more. Now, you can keep in touch with thousands of friend with just a facebook post. All we ask is that we do not forget some of the basic courtesies that make us human. Don't forget to smile and say hello to the people right in front of you! So, with DIY Chicken Coops, even though we are online, we remember that there is a customer behind every order. We want you to feel free to call us. If we don't answer, we will call you back! Rich and I are the owners. You can always email us: or Just don't forget to smile and say hello to the person in front of you! So, why chicken coops? Well, we are part of this modern world like everyone else. We've notice that as we get more and more modern as a society, we are losing our interaction with nature. It was only a few generations ago when it was far more common for people to get dinner from the backyard, even in the "suburbs". Things like raising chickens, gardening and making your own ice cream were more common place. I have some fond memories sitting on the basement steps churning ice cream with my Grandfather. There's something rewarding about being close to the task at hand. The end product feels like your product and there's a sense of pride that comes with that accomplishment. We picked an area that is hands on, educational, and helps keep us in touch with nature. We're trying to find a way to get back to the basics or at least stay in touch with the basics! So, Rich and I wanted to start a business where we could provide outstanding customer service to people and we are very excited about staying a little closer to nature. Chickens are some of the most efficient animals on the planet for their ability to produce food (for us) and their low requirements for taking in food. Truthfully, chickens will eat just about anything. Obviously, the better their diet, the higher quality food they produce. But, if you consider our history, chickens have helped mankind survive for a several thousand years. Some accounts suggest that chickens were domesticated in China as early as 6000 BC. But we'll just speak for modern times. There are more chickens on the planet than any other species of bird. Chickens out number people about 3 to 1! Anyway, before we go down the road of too many chicken facts, we just wanted to thank you for giving us the opportunity to serve you and provide you excellent customer service. We have worked hard to make our storefront interactive and educational. Please visit our classroom section! We love feedback! Feel free to post on our forum and ask the community questions! We enjoy engaging our customers. Thanks again for visiting!
